The Time of My Football Life
(Or how I spent my long service leave)
By: David Picken
Release Date: November 2019
Paperback: 136 pages
Another book via our Popcorn Press imprint, The Time of My Football Life is David Picken's 'boy's own adventure' style contemporaneous account of his trip to Germany for the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
It was the tenth World Cup he had been hoping to get to and it's an experience he will never forget, following both England (the country of his birth) and Australia, where he has lived since 1995. Join him in his quest to find tickets - both legally and maybe not-so-legally (hello Jack Warner!) - his travels and beer-tasting through Germany, the ups and downs of following his two teams, and his thoughts about the eventual winners of that tournament.
David Picken was born in England and is a lifelong supporter of Port Vale in the English League Two (fourth tier) which tragically went into administration in 2012. He played competitively from age 11 to 45 in England, Hong Kong and Australia, and has been a volunteer women's and junior football coach and now administrator with Surf Coast FC in Victoria, Australia.
He has previously published a textbook in his professional sphere and is a former winner of the FE Crowle Award from the Australian Institute of Building for teaching excellence at Deakin University.
