3 new books and a festival
We've got THREE new books coming out this month, not to mention the first Football Writers' Festival we're co-convening with the Johnny Warren Football Foundation.
The first is from someone well known in Australian football circles, Matthew Hall, who has already authored Robbie Slater's biography and the highly-acclaimed The Away Game (also a documentary film). We're proud to publish his latest: 'If I started to cry, I wouldn't stop ...' The quote is taken from an interview Matthew conducted with Lucas Neill soon after that match at that World Cup. It's just one of many interviews, anecdotes and behind-the-scenes looks he gives us into Australian football from around 1996 through to 2009.
If you've lived through those times, you will both wince and laugh at being reminded of them. If you haven't ... then read and learn!
The other two books are from a new author, our other imprint - Popcorn Press - and a new genre - fiction. We're introducing Texi Smith who has written two novels about Jarrod Black, a young (fictional) Aussie midfielder plying his trade in the lower leagues of English football and, of course, aiming for the top.
By the way, $1 from the sale of every edition of Jarrod Black - Hospital Pass will be given by us at Fair Play Publishing to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
In other news, if you haven't ordered your SOUVENIR edition of the Encyclopedia of Matildas by Andrew Howe and Greg Werner, you really do only have till the end of the weekend to order it as we're heading to the printers real soon. The Souvenir Edition includes a numbered edition, your name in the back and its own slip case. Of course, there will be other editions available in May when we launch it.
Finally, you can meet or catch-up with Matthew, Texi, Andrew, Greg and so many other wonderful people at the first Football Writers' Festival, to be held at the home of the Johnny Warren Football Museum at Jamberoo Pub on 23&24 March.
If you have a passion for football and ideas, and love talking or listening about either, don't miss it! Find out more at footballwritersfestival.com.au.
