Collection: Jean Williams

Professor Jean Williams is a prominent international writer specialising in the history of sport, with a focus on gender relations, governance, and the professionalisation of women's sport.

In 2003, Jean published A Game for Rough Girls and has since authored seven books, curated exhibitions and written numerous journalistic pieces. In 2024, her history of the England women's football team was published entitled, Legendary Lionesses: the History of the England Women's Football Team 1972-2022.

She has curated content with FIFA, UEFA, the English FA, and other sports organisations to bring history to a wider audience and has transitioned into feature documentaries, scriptwriting and television content. She has her own line of trademarked clothing @jeanolafc that was showcased at the Women’s World Cup in Australia 2023 and the Women's Euros in 2025. 

A keen swimmer, and occasional triathlete, Jean has taken up tennis after a 30-year hiatus, more with enthusiasm than success.
