Jean Williams
Professor Jean Williams is a prominent international writer specialising in the history of sport, with a focus on gender relations, governance, and the professionalisation of women's sport.
In 2003, Jean published A Game for Rough Girls and has since authored seven books, curated exhibitions and written numerous journalistic pieces. Her most recent work is Legendary Lionesses: the History of the England Women's Football Team 1972-2022 (2024).
She has collaborated with FIFA, UEFA, the English FA, and other sports organisations to bring history to a wider audience and has transitioned into creating feature documentaries and television content.
Although retired from full-time academia, she currently serves as a Visiting Professor at the Institute of Education, University of Reading in England, and has taken up tennis after a 30-year hiatus.
