Dianne Whelan
Dianne Whelan is an award-winning Canadian filmmaker, photographer, author and multimedia artist based in Garden Bay, BC. Her work spans film, books and interactive projects, often exploring the intersection of adventure, traditional wisdom and contemporary culture.
Her documentary 500 Days in the Wild premiered at the Whistler Film Festival in 2023, while her earlier film 40 Days at Base Camp debuted at the Vancouver International Film Festival and opened the Banff Mountain Film Festival. She also authored Base Camp: 40 Days on Everest, based on her time filming at Mount Everest.
Whelan’s first book, This Vanishing Land, draws on her experience embedded in a Canadian Arctic Sovereignty Patrol, which also inspired her award-winning National Film Board documentary This Land. Across her career, her work has received multiple international awards in film and digital media.
