Beware the Covid Christmas Slowdowns!

Beware the Covid Christmas Slowdowns!

No doubt almost everyone has heard of bottle necks, delays and lack of resources due to the impact of Covid lockdowns over the past two years.

Some industry sectors such as health and aged care, hospitality, retail, agriculture and hairdressing are severely impacted.
While many probably don't think about it, Covid has also hit the publishing industry. During lockdown, getting a book printed was slower - much slower - than usual, with books being regarded as "non-essential" so having to go to the back of the queue behind "essential" printing. Even now lockdown is over, there is such a long queue, that we're in limbo again. In addition, there are some items - such as slip cases for our next publication, Portraits in Football - which are simply not able to be supplied until well into next year.
Each of the three books we published in the most recent lockdown has been impacted by these delays, and the two remaining ones scheduled for release in 2021 are also now at various stages in the printing process. At the time of writing, our printer cannot even give us an estimated delivery date even though Portraits in Football has been at the printer for more than six weeks, and 100 Years of Football at Wynnum was sent to print at the end of last month.
Nonetheless, we're delighted that we have now released our first audio book. Texi Smith's terrific novel, Anna Black - This Girl Can Play is now available from Google Play, Audible and Findaway Voices. For all those who say "we don't have time to read", there are now no excuses! Depending on how Anna Black is received as an audio book, we will try it with others also. It has been read by Kate Bright, who is a voice artist and former AIS athlete and house mistress to women athletes - including many of the Matildas!
In the meantime, stay tuned for news on Portraits in Football and 100 Years of Football at Wynnum being available. Fingers crossed, they'll be out soon!
On a related note, Australia Post has advised that anything not in the mail by Monday 13th December will not reach anywhere in Australia in time for Christmas.
What that means is if you want to give one of our #reallygoodfootballbooks as a Christmas gift, please get your order in as soon as possible, but definitely no later than midnight on 12th December. The earlier, the better!
