100 Years of Football at Wynnum - Collector's Edition
Author: Vicky Krayem
'100 Years of Football at Wynnum' is a celebration in pictures and words of the centenary of a grassroots community football club, the type of club that forms the backbone of football around the world.
It is not the oldest football club in Queensland, but Wynnum took part in Brisbane’s first metropolitan competition in 1921 and was home to cap number 9 of the Socceroos, Clarence (or Clarrie) Shenton who played in the first series of international matches for Australia in 1922. It has been the junior club of players who include Clare Polkinghorne, Ben Halloran, Josh Rose, Karl Dodd, Brad Ditton, and international tennis player, John Millman.
The story of Wynnum’s first 100 years by journalist, ‘soccer mum’ and club volunteer, Vicky Krayem, is told through historical archives, photographs, and the eyes and ears of those who have been part of the club for more than five decades including Life Member Wayne Gracey. It reminds us all of the importance of grassroots clubs to a community.
